Lucy Clay redesigned LC Slicer V4.
Making constantly thin slices without any distortion is a dream of almost every clayer. That is why one of the first tools Lucy Clay started to develop was a slicing tool. It came with a revolutionary idea of a big, resistant and very precise slicer for polymer clay. It took several years of work on feedbacks and cooperation with polymerists until the perfect slicer for polymer clay was made – new LC Slicer Version 4.
What is so good about it? What makes it so different?
Let us come back in time and trace the evolution of LC Slicer from 2014 until today. It all started in 2014 with the first model of LC Slicer. The goal was to create a well-engineered and reliable slicing tool for those who need to make paper-thin slices or work in Mocume Gane technique.
Evolution of LC Slicer
The first model was made of dibond panel and steel and had a base and vertical assembly. The base glided back and forth and advanced the polymer clay towards the blade. The base advanced by turning a knob of LC Ease (a rectangular box with a know inside). A super sharp Slicer Blade was mounted in vertical assembly and moved up and down cutting the polymer clay with guillotine action.
The smallest gap between the blade and backstop support was 0.79″ (2cm). LC Angle Base would fill this gap up to 0 and provide additional functionality.
The first model had no aperture on the top to hold it when you needed to move the Slicer. Which, in fact, was one of the biggest disadvantages of this model, as many would hold a handle of the vertical assembly to lift the Slicer, and some would break it this way.
The second version addressed that issue. It had an aperture in the vertical assembly that allowed to grab the LC Slicer without risking to break it.
This year, in 2019, Lucy Clay launched a new, updated version of LC Slicer for polymer clay. The material was laser-cut plastic and had to be assembled. The assembly process would take about 20-30 mins and needed using glue and assembling some small parts. Some customers gave us feedback that the new assembling process was difficult or too time-consuming.
Another feature that clayers did not like is the fact the gap between the blade and backstop support was now wider – about 2.56″ (65mm), and it was not compatible with an old version of Angle Base.
All feedbacks were analysed, worked on it and now LUCY CLAY is happy to present you the new updated version of LC Slicer – the best slicing tool for polymer clay.
What is new about this updated model?
Firstly, LC Slicer is now preassembled, you need to screw just the handle (2x nuts) and the frame (5x screws) and slicer is ready. It is a very user-friendly assembly, no more glueing, difficult assembling and long instructions.
Another great feature is that the smallest gap between the blade and backstop support is now only 0.39″ (1cm).
New updated LC Angle Base will fill this gap up to 0″ and provide additional functionality!
As in previous models, thanks to its moving base, you can slice very thin slices of constant width. No grid needed since you can just turn the black knob (full or 1/2) to move the platform forward (1 or 1/2 mm). That is why there is no more LC Ease and Grid. You may download a grid of previous model here, print it and stick to the base: lc-slicer-grid
How hard is it to assemble it?
As mentioned, all you need to do is to screw 7 nuts and you are ready. Watch the video instructions:
How big is the gap between the blade and backstop support?
It is about 0.39″ (1cm), which means you can slice really short cane. If you wish, you can fill the gap using new redesigned Angle Base.
How thin will it cut?
Using LC Slicer, you can cut slices as thin as 0.04″ (1mm). Thanks to a knob, you can keep them constantly thin.
Where can I buy it?
New LC Slicer is available at Lucy Clay Store and on Amazon.com.
