LC Czextruder and LC Disk 4 polymer clay tutorial “Rainbow heart cane” by Lucy Struncova

January 9, 2020

In this step-by-step polymer clay tutorial, you will learn how to make a Rainbow Heart Cane, that you can use to decorate a bangle or other piece you made for your loved ones. ❤️We thank Lucy Struncova for sharing this great tutorial with us.

About the author.

My name is Lucie Štruncová but you may know me by my nickname “Lucy” which I’ve been using for quite a long time now. My polymer addiction started quite a few years ago. As for everybody, the beginnings were rough. I remember that once I tried to play with a cube of glittering polymer and I cut out these “awesome” treble clefs. I couldn’t even imagine the possibilities of polymer clay and how many people actually worked with it. In short, I’ve simply discovered things gradually on my own. I visited my first course by Veronika Sturdy about a year later and there it all started. Courses followed curses and ideas kept on coming. But I realized that I needed to practice, to put something of myself into my products.

Wherever I work (whether at home or in a workshop) I try really hard to put something from me in every piece, to make it unique. I was honored to meet and learn from many foreign instructors from all over the world. Lecturers have taught me a lot but now I’m focusing on my own work, courses, and e-books…

I love writing tutorials for you and I want to pass as much knowledge to you as possible. Besides my own production, I also work at LC Tools which is a business that we’ve started with my father. I try to promote, test and design our products, which make the work easier for all of you handy girls. Guess I’m kind of a “mom” of all this stuff. I sincerely hope that the polymer clay will win you over as well. Give yourself a chance to develop your own creativity and believe me that this amazing material has a great future! You can learn more about me and about my techniques at www.lucystruncova.com.

Materials and supplies:

• LC Czextruder

• Extension from LC Disk 4 “Heart”, “Half-heart” – see picture

• Black clay, clay of 7 rainbow colors

With the disks from LC Disk #4, the Heart shape disk, and the Half-heart you can extrude and make a perfect heart design. You can create a cheerful rainbow cane that everyone will love. There are so many possibilities with these disks, do not be afraid to experiment.

Step 1.

Prepare seven colors of polymer clay. I used rainbow colors. I took various scraps and mixed those of similar shades together.

First, prepare polymer clay, I used polymer clay in pastel colors. Condition every piece and make a cylinder. Place the colors for the spectrum order and roll over with a roller.

Step 2.

Now run it through the pasta machine and make a skinner blend.

Step 3.

Next, fold the blend in half twice in the direction of the blend.

Step 4.

Roll folded skinner blend and put it into the Czextruder. Use the extension with heart shape.

Step 5.

Extrude the clay, on the surface, you will see the rainbow blend.

Step 6.

Condition black clay and extrude using the second disc extension”Half-heart”.

Step 7.

Once you have extruded the heart and half-heart, cut the heart cane of the length of a cane you would like to have. And then cut two of the half-hearts of the same length.

Step 8.

Gently place the heat extrusion inside the half-heart extrusion. Take your time to connect extrudes together accurately.

Step 9.

Add the second half-heart extrusion from the other side. But make sure to assemble it accurately so that the heart lines up perfectly.

Step 10.

Smooth gently with a roller, be careful not to distort the heart shape.

Step 11.

Cut this cane in thirteen parts of 2 centimeters each (approx 0,8″)

Step 12.

Finally, place every heart cane next to each other in a row. Surprise! Here is your rainbow heart cane.
